Our History

In the heart of Romeo where faith and compassion meet.

Welcome to the First Congregational Church, Romeo Michigan - United Church of Christ.

Our church was established on August 23, 1828.  We share a strong bond with each other and while we are a group of independent people, we value openness and inclusivity.  This church is very important in the life of many of our members and friends, providing values, learning, and insight, while influencing our personal life, families and the relationships with others.  By living our faith, we continue to be inspired by each other in ways we are not always aware of.  We...

Welcome / Accept / Believe / Commit / Give / Minister / Support / Connect / Are Family / Inspire / Celebrate

We are a community of believers who continue to engage faithfully with our partners in Christ through our relationships with the Michigan Conference and the United Church of Christ.

Our Story

Everyone is invited, in love and safety.

Little by little, story by story, we continue to paint a collective picture of who we are.  We strongly believe in the motto of the United Church of Christ...

"No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here... and God loves you."

Everyone is invited, in love and safety, to share their story as we are ever becoming new in Christ.

Come.  Share your story with us.

Open and Affirming

We are here for you

We invite and welcome all into our community of faith and worship, and into the full life, leadership, mission and ministry of this church.  We celebrate diversity and recognize the sacred worth and dignity of all persons.  We equally affirm all believers, seekers, genders, those of all sexual orientation and identities, all races, ethnicities and cultures, those of all classes and abilities, all marital status and family structures, those who hope for a better future and those who have lost hope, and anyone else named or unnamed.  We embrace and seek to preserve the beautiful, amazing diversity of God's creations; that through grace, our love and faith in God, and our compassion for neighbor may flourish.

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here... and God loves you!

Come as you are

Welcome to the First Congregational Church, UCC of Romeo.  We are very happy you have joined us and want to make sure you feel welcome and comfortable.  Here's a quick summary of what you can expect.

  • You will be welcomed by our members and friends.  Don't worry; they just want to say hello and make sure you feel comfortable.  Please let us know if we can help you in any way.
  • Come as you are.  You'll see people in suits, jeans and everything in between.  You'll even see some of us in shorts during the summer.
  • Bring your children for the start of worship.  They normally leave for church school right after time with the children.  If you have a younger child, we have a nursery that will take good care of them.
  • We have a worship bulletin that will guide you through the worship service.  If you have a question or aren't sure about something, just ask.  Don't worry if you make a mistake, we do too!
  • We have a time for sharing the peace.  Yes, it's another time for us to welcome you.  This is also a time for us to say hello or hug those we haven't seen for a week or more, so know it takes a little time.
  • We take an offering during the worship service.  We know that some are not able to give so don't worry if you can't.  If you do, it is appreciated and whatever you give will be used to support the various ministries and missions of our church.

We hope to see you on Sunday!
